abstract = "The objective of this chapter is to provide information on how the
remote sensing and geographical information system technology can
be applied to the study of inland waters. First some basic
concepts of remote sensing are presented to provide the
theoretical background for applying optical and microwave remote
sensing to obtain information on inland water. The importance of
the geographical information system technology for the full use of
remote sensed information is also presented. Finally some examples
of the current use of remote sensing and geographical information
system technology for the study of inland waters in Brazil are
given.",
